The AEMC 5060 is a high-voltage insulation resistance tester for de-energized cables, motor windings, transformers, and switchgear. It applies fixed DC test voltages of 500, 1000, 2500, and 5000 V, or a user-selectable voltage programmable from 40 to 1000 V in 10 V steps and 1000 to 5100 V in 100 V steps, and measures insulation resistance up to 10 TΩ. During the test it displays test voltage, insulation resistance, and leakage current; at the end it shows capacitance and the discharge voltage at the leads.

Diagnostics are automatic. The 5060 calculates and presents the Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR), Polarization Index (PI), and Dielectric Discharge (DD), the ratios that tell you whether insulation is aging or contaminated rather than simply passing a spot reading. Built-in safety features include a voltage warning above 25 V, selectable test inhibition if live voltage is detected, and automatic discharge at the completion of each test.

A USB optically isolated port connects to the included DataView software for configuration, download, and report generation, with storage for up to 1500 test results. The 5060 runs on a 9.6 V NiMH battery pack or line power.
