The AEMC 275HVD is a safety instrument, not a meter. It does not display a voltage value; it detects the presence of high voltage on unshielded conductors and alerts the operator before work begins. As the sensor head moves toward an energized conductor, it picks up the radiated electric field, and once the selected threshold is reached a loud buzzer sounds and a bright red LED, visible from a distance, warns of a live conductor.

An 8-position rotary switch selects the detection range across a wide 80 V to 275 kV span, with switch positions at 240 V and 2, 6, 11, 22, 33, 132, and 275 kV. The selected range is detected at approximately 10 in (25 cm) from the voltage, and greater detection distances are possible at the lower voltage positions. A user-selectable self-test energizes the complete sensing circuit, not just the light and buzzer, so you confirm the detector is working before you rely on it.

A universal spline on the back attaches the detector to a standard hot stick with a shotgun adapter, and its lightweight body minimizes sway at the end of a long stick. Rated IP65 for indoor and outdoor use, it works on unshielded cables only.
